Bear Lane

Another shot from Sunday. Really like this scheme and the sun on the facade here really is nice. Some unusual reflections on the East facade from the adjacent building.

The Barbican

One of my favourite buildings, or rather collection of them, in London is the Barbican. I’ve been meaning to go and do some shots of it for a while now but never quite got there. I had the lens with me from a job on Friday so headed over there this afternoon for an hour or so.

The light was stunning today and lovely and warm but quite stark and contrasty. I played around with these for a while in Lightroom but ended up going for black and white in the end. Pleased with the few shots below.

View from within

Not a bad view from our new flat over London. I love the way the light changes during the day.

Mumford & Sons

Whilst not a gig I normally I would have signed up to go and see, the good Janey Mac bought us tickets to see them last night at the Hammersmith Apollo. They really are incredible live and spine tinglingly good. This version doesn’t really do it justice as to how good they are live.

Here’s two rubbish pictures taken with my phone also.

Abbaye du Thoronet

Still collecting together some of my photos from the last few months. On my recent trip to France with work we took a trip to see the incredible Abbaye du Thoronet. It is quite simply the most beautiful building I have ever experienced. Whilst it was a little crowded with tourists the strong shadows and detail of the stone are incredible. I managed to get through two rolls of film whilst there. I would love to spend a week there just watching the changing light and documenting it through photography.

Here’s a few of my favourite shots from the visit.

Rant

No working for free

I found this little video on Twitter earlier from a variety of sources. It’s something I’ve been meaning to blog about for a while since developing and now selling my photographic services, but this video seems to sum it all up quite nicely. It’s amazing that people don’t seem to value the skills that you develop as a Photographer. There’s a comment that gets banded about when someone says “Wow, that camera takes amazing photos”, which is odd as you’d never say to a chef “wow that oven bakes amazing cakes”. But the other thing that also seems to wind me up is that so many people have DSLR that people think that anyone can take a good photo and to some extent that might be true. However I seem to have gone off on a bit of a tangent. This video sums up so many things about a relationship with a client, fortunately mine don’t seem to have this attitude but I’ve seen this type of thing many a time.

Franks Campari Bar 2010

We visited Franks Campari bar the weekend we moved flat – about 4 weeks ago now. We got very drunk with Patrick and Smiley Kim (her real name) when we should have been at a gig in Victoria park. It was raining and we got drunk in South London instead. Silly but fun.

Was shooting with the LC-A that day. Whilst the lens has some pretty bad distortion going on it’s got a great contrasty feel to it and is incredibly sharp in the middle of the frame. Love this little thing and it works really well with this load of expired Superia I have.

The views over London are incredible. It doesn’t take much to get above the rooflines and see the full panorama available. Lovely to watch the storm pass in the distance and see dusk fall over central London.
