Brompton

I hate being away from my bike but unfortunately going to meetings out of London involves getting buses and trains etc. This is looking more and more tempting… If a job takes off at work then I think it’ll be getting one. Only for trips to the station though. The fixed will still be my main travel around town.

Many bikes

One of the best things about the office is the sheer number of cyclists amongst the staff, as well as having a dedicated secure area to store them. Out of an office of around 25-30 people I’d say almost half cycle. Slightly less on a regular basis perhaps. Anyway, the other day I saw the sun shining on this lot and thought it deserved a quick picture.

Bikes are amazing!

Copenhagen – Part 1

Just back from a few days in Copenhagen this weekend. Couldn’t resist opening up Lightroom when I got in and processing a few shots. A few of my favourites below from the 4Gig I shot. Ooops.

A great place to spend time. Felt very Dutch in many ways. More text and images to follow.

Over to the dark side

I’ve finally succumbed to the dark side. The fact that Microstation isn’t available for the Mac is a real bummer. SO I now have it, via Windows 7 on OS X. Also got Outlook and the office database, which unfortunately relies heavily on internet explorer. Should make things a bit easier.

Magnus, Mari, Milo

Quick walk around the park this morning with Magnus, Mari and their son Milo followed by coffee and cake. Pretty grim weather but managed to get a few snaps anyway.

The Thing

Not usually a fan of Halloween but this year we went to the BFI to see the amazing John Carpenter film The Thing. As usual I hadn’t seen it before but to see it for the first time on the big screen was superb. REally great horror film. Well worth seeing again.

One man’s love for his bicycle

I’ve had this bike for about four and a half years now after Neil swapped it for an old Mac laptop. It’s an On-One Pompino with a carbon fork and a hole in the seat tube (which I added). I’ve hardly spent a penny on it since I got hold of it really. It had some new wheels which were fairly cheap and I’ve just replaced the drivetrain for the first time. Each winter I go through a set of brake pads at about £8 per pair. A new set of tyres (Bontrager Racelite Hardcase 23mm) are needed now but they’ve lasted a few thousand miles too. Mudguards are going back on for the winter which should keep the crap out of my eyes.

I use it everyday to ride to work and it’s an absolute joy to ride. The fact that it cost’s me hardly anything helps with this. If I didn’t have this I’d be spending a fortune on bus fares getting to work. It’s no beauty as you can see but hey this is all about function. Some people call these bikes ‘beaters’ but I can’t bring myself to put it down like that. I was thinking about getting it refurbished and resprayed at some point but I think it would lose it’s charm. So in essence, I love this bike. It gets me around London quickly, costs me nothing and keeps me fit. I love it.

Long live the bicycle!

Architecture Work

Two years eight months

So I’ve been in my current job for that long. Today is a good day because all the time I’ve been here I’ve had a planning application waiting to be submitted. It’s taken all that time to get to the point where it can go in through lots of negotiations and a series of large documents being submitted. Today it’s going in and I get to work on another project for the next year or so.

A think a beer is in order.

Climbing

I haven’t been climbing for a while now due to spending so much time at work recently but this video is certainly inspiring. Quite athletic and some insane moves going on. I guess I’ll just have to stick to lumbering up low grade route for a while longer. Think I might go climbing next week and try and get back into it.

Southbank wandering

Work is pretty manic at the moment and quite a few late nights have been worked over the last few weeks. It looks like it’s going to be like that up until Christmas. After a very late night on Thursday I finally succumbed to the cold that seems to be doing the rounds (man flu). So after a bit of a sleep this morning I headed out to the Southbank to try and have a play with the D700 and also the new grip I’ve got for it last week. It’s kind of odd using it when doing portrait shots but nice to not have to throw your hands right over to reach the controls.

So it now looks something like this. Larger, more batteries and that set of vertical controls. Obviously it’s also a lot heavier. I managed to get a set of higher spec AA batteries which means I can get the full 8 frames per second out of it, although it’s not something I can imagine using that much for Architecture. It’ll definitely help when doing an all day shoot though to avoid taking a charger with me for lunchtime.
