Shard Fog

Whilst not normally a fan with anything to do with HDR photography this image has been tastefully done. The Shard is having a real impact on London at the moment and this captures it incredibly well.

Shift lens test shots

Finally got round to doing something with the new Nikkor 24mm PC-E aka the shift lens I’ve wanted to get for so long. Didn’t stray too far from the house after dinner tonight so all fairly local. Bit too cold to be hanging out on street corners with a tripod at the moment.

TimeScapes

Pretty incredible set of time lapse images in this. Not sure how they did all the panning shots but simply amazing.

Food

Soup

Whilst I enjoy a good roast chicken as much as the next guy I sometimes prefer the bits that follow, like the delicious chicken sandwiches for two days in a row on buttery toast, mmmm. After stripping the carcass the bones all go in a bag in the freezer. I grabbed this lot today and chucked in a few rough chopped onions, carrots, celery, salt and pepper and some chilli flakes. Boil that for a few hours then drain. Then add some finely chopped carrots and celery some pearl barley and wait. Bloody delicious! So a fiver for a chicken and almost four meals out of it. Good stuff.

50 x 50 in B+W

So Simon managed to finished his 50 by 50 project. I haven’t actually spoken to him properly about it but looks like he’s enjoyed it. Just wondering what project is next? Nice to see all the images being posted each day too. Hope he’s got out of it what he wanted to.

Saying goodbye to an old friend

Pretty sad day yesterday. Spoke to my mum to find out that the family cat had passed on. Liz and I both got a kitten each when I was about 10 or 11, Liz must have been about 7 or 8 then. We picked the pair of them up from a farm in Wiltshire where we grew up – two brothers from a litter of 5 or 6 I think. They were smaller than the size of our childlike hands at the time. Each would sleep on our respective beds as we grew up and Liz even dressed Topise up in baby clothes which was hilarious. Mine was called Tim but was hit by a car when I was around 15 I think. Liz then kindly said “We can share Topise now if you want”. Topsie kept on going and in recent years had turned into a cantankerous, grumpy old man. Very particular about where he would sit and constantly hassling mum for attention. She said she couldn’t stand him but secretly she still loved him. Amazing to think that he has been in our lives for that long – two thirds of my time on this earth, crazy.

Belk Tech Backpack

Last month I collected my new Belk Tech Backpack. It’s a thing of beauty and tough as anything. A proper review coming shortly once I’ve taken some pics of the bag in daylight but for now here’s a few photos of the man who made it.

Awesome sewing machine and nice to own something completely custom and made by someone here in London.

Veteran portraits

A quick link to an amazing series of portraits by Brian David Stevens shot on remembrance Sunday yesterday. I really like these. Such incredible feeling and texture behind these images.

First print

Well first proper print done. I’ve finally got round to getting one of my images printed properly at The Print Space on the Kingsland Road. They did a great job and mounted it on an aluminium backing which looks amazing.

The reason for this? To celebrate Peter’s recent wedding. They both like it which is good and I think it looks great in their living room. Next one will be in our front room. Rubbish picture courtesy of Peter’s iPhone.
