Things that don’t go together

Guinness and laptops!

So whilst night Emma and I made a quick trip to the Gowlett to have a pint and use the free wireless to order a holiday. Just about to press ‘pay’ and I manage to knock half a glass of Guinness into my laptop. Screen goes dead, whip the battery out and pour the Guinness out. Don’t think it’s that good for the innards. Fingers crossed the M+S Insurance comes through.

Fingers crossed.

Meg’s new website

I’ve been helping a friend at work sort her website out. Rather than doing everything from scratch in Dreamweaver I suggested she use Indexhibit. After a quick install during a lunch a few weeks ago we got round to sorting out the CSS today at lunch. Lots of great work on there and definitely worth checking out.

Architecture Love this!

Man, dog, architecture, golf

I saw this great video via Twitter. It’s of a friends, friend called Angus who run’s a great practice called Dematos Ryan. Unusually for an Architect’s practice they seem to be quite savvy with the whole new media thing and this is one of their latest outputs. There’s something really quite beautiful about the whole video!

Worth watching a second time.

Giant leylandii

Good god! Just look at that thing.

It is probably safe to assume that David Alvand likes his privacy. Firstly the civil engineer spent 12 years fighting a court battle over a 3.6-metre (12ft) concrete wall which he erected without planning permission around his back garden.

It was finally dismantled just before the case reached the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

Now it is the front of Alvand’s suburban semi-detached house in Plymouth, Devon, which has agitated the neighbours.

They have launched a formal complaint under antisocial behaviour legislation to force him to cut back the vast leyland cypress trees completely filling the front garden.

Bike light portrait

I’ve said a number of times how much I like the Hipstamatic application on my iPhone but this is a slightly more creative use of it. Patrick holding a bike light to illuminate their faces with the incredible view from the top of a car park in Peckham behind.

Demolition Man

Last weekend I gave Nick & Zoe a hand removing their shed from the garden and a few trips to the tip. Took a few photos with my iPhone and also a quick video. Love using the video camera on it.

Moving on

We’re moving out of our flat on Weds to somewhere a bit cheaper and also a bit closer to the Gowlett – our favourite pub. So at the moment we’re packing our entire belongings into cardboard boxes. Almost theraputic in a way. We’ve got two men coming with a van to help move us which should make it a lot easier. Then we have the rest of the week off to organise, put books in shelves and eat pizza.
