In The Unlikely Event of a Water Landing

The Unlikely Event of a Water Landing: New Photos From Flight 1549: “On Jan. 15, 2009, a few Canadian geese with bad timing became snarge, a steely pilot became a hero, and the world became fascinated with images of a jet splashing into the Hudson River and then floating calmly as passengers crowded its wings.
But until now, few people have seen the equally surprising pictures of the second half of this story: when a salvage team used the biggest floating crane on the East Coast to pluck the ill-fated Airbus A320 from the frigid water.”

An incredible set of photos! There’s also an interesting story behind the images in the article.

Paul Saunders Sculpture

Emma and I went over to see Jane (her cousin) and husband Paul yesterday. They’ve got a nice little flat which happens to have a basement, perfect for Paul’s sculpture work. I guess welding kit doesn’t look to great in the living room!

Paul has some great work and I’ve offered to do him a blog and get his work shot and up on Flickr and generally help with some publicity. Would be great to see him getting into some galleries round London – he’s had a few offers already. There were also some amazing bronze works and also a superb cast aluminium one. He’s also got some great ideas about making his work more interactive and getting graffiti artists involved with his pieces.

Here’s one of the pieces we saw yesterday.

Balfes Bikes, East Dulwich

As usual if you search for any shop, service or such like on locally Google you’re bound to find a link to someone moaning about it on the East Duwlich Forum. My views on some of the people who frequent that forum are probably best left off a public posting. The words racist and bigotry come to mind.

I noticed that there was a new bike shop near Goose Green in East Duwlich and used Google Street View to find the name then searched in Google. Lo and behold a posting from East Dulwich Forum complaining about them! The owner had responded on there also. So I called them up anyway and took the two wheels from the fixed down there to get them trued – they were way off after my trip over the car bonnet before Christmas. Great service and very friendly too from calling them up to picking them up a few days later (they open late on Weds).

If you need a bike repaired and are in East Duliwch then give them a shot. A great little bike shop – Balfes Bikes

What have I done?

What have I done?, originally uploaded by Andy*Matthews.

The weekend before last was Phil and Sacha’s wedding. I took lots of pictures as usual, this is one of my favourites though.

Humour

Sometimes I think that we’re all a little too serious and miserable in our day to day lives. It’s things like this kebab van in Cornwall that really make me smile. What else would you name it?

Here’s my sister Liz modelling in front.
