Bermondsey Square

Grabbed this photo earlier today whilst down on site. Ominous sky and like the way the woman is standing there patiently waiting for the traffic. Made up of around 8 images as I only had the 50mm lens with me.

New lens

Finally had my new lens delivered from Hong Kong. It’s a 50mm prime lens which is apparently ideal for portraits and that’s what I’ve been doing with it. It’s much sharper than the Sigma and also a couple of stops faster. Lots more images coming soon with this I think hopefully some biking ones too.

Redbubble

I found a great image earlier on the fffound.com website and followed the link to this T-Shirt with the same graphic.

I had a bit of a look round the site and it seems like you can sell artwork of your own there. I’ve uploaded a few pictures in the hope that someone might buy them for cards. I might even buy them myself as they’d make great birthday cards for friends. Anyway check out the profile as linked below.

EDIT: Just got the first cards delivered from them today and they look great!

Photography with a bit more pressure

A few weekends ago I took my first ‘paid for’ photography job. Vaughan and Shannon suggested that I come along to an interview Vaughan was doing for Living South – a local magazine which is distributed in SE1. The job was to get a few images to go with the article Vaughan was doing on Witcomb Cycles in Deptford. We rode there and the whole place was fascinating. They have been making bikes there since 1952 and continue to make custom hand made lugged road frames to the day. Unfortunately it got me lusting after a custom fixed frame but at £1200 it’ll have to wait for a few years yet.

It was difficult shooting on the low light but I got 10 or so decent shots and the magazine seem quite pleased. They’re not amazing by pro standards but hopefully they’re better than what they normally would have got.

One of my favourite images is below and the rest are on flickr flickr here. Let me know what you think!

Sheldon Brown passes away

For those who know anything about cycling will almost certainly know at least something about Sheldon Brown. Unfortunately he passed away earlier in the week. There’s a been more than enough commentary on all the cycling blogs and forums but by far the best piece of commentary has to be from Bike Snob NYC who posts a serious piece on his usual hilarious look at cycling and in particular fixed gear bikes.

more sleep required

1 hours sleep last night after staying up working on Paper 6 for Part 3.

Still only 3 more papers to go and then the case study, oh and 3 years worth of log sheets to do. Roll on September when it’s all over.

Just need to survive a day at work first.

Friday off

Had Friday off to do some work on Part 3 assignments. The weather was too nice to stay indoors though so went to take some pics.

Critical Mass

Critical Mass was good fun last night. Ended up meeting up with Ray, David, Graham and Tim. Good to catch up with everyone and get a ride round London with a police escort.

Funniest part was watching an irate taxi driver get told by the a plod to get off his wally phone.

A few beers after at The John Snow in Soho. It’s part of the Smauel Smiths pubs so was dirt cheap. Five pints of lager for a tenner! Ace.

A few more pics here from Ray.
