When Compact Flash cards go bad…

Had a few scary moments over the weekend. Managed to get some good shots (I thought from the small preview on the D70) but then I got the dreaded CHA error. I carried on shooting once clearing the error but knew that the card was probably going to do it again. I got back on Sunday and had remembered this link from Seb’s site. In the comments PhotoRescue was recommended. So, I downloaded it and gave it a go. Sure enough it recovered almost all of the images… so after paying the £25 for the software I had all my images back! Happy days. Must work out how to stop corrupting the card though.

Domestic bliss

Domestic bliss, originally uploaded by cephal0pod.

This weekend we went camping in Wales. The family tent got an outing for a few nights. We arrived on Friday night after a long drive. It rained all the way and then suddenly stopped. A bit damp underfoot but we managed to get the tent up, a few beers down and some sleep in.

Next day up for a cracking breakfast and served on the largest piece of bread I have ever seen! Matt and Graham arrived after and we faffed for a whole before setting off for the W2 trail. It certainly felt epic and by the time we got back all of us were pretty worn out. That climb from the bottom of the Wall trail is a real killer! Some beers, some dinner, a sleep, a shower, some more dinner, mountainbike DVD’s in the cafe and lots more beer later it was time for bed.

Up the next day for more enormous breakfast then off to Brechfa. A slightly longer journey than planned but headed round the blue trai. A bit like a big BMX track really and a little too manicured for me but worth going back for the red I reckon.

It was pretty good staying on site for a change rather than going to a B+B nearby. That cafe rocks!

Looking for new angles

I’m carrying the D70, wireless triggers and a flash on most rides now after the Seb Rogers photo course. Sometimes I use them, sometimes I don’t but was glad I had them at the weekend. The final descent on Whites level is one of my favourites but it’s quite tight there and difficult to get interesting shots. On the photo course one idea was that you should always look for an alternative angle to add some interest. Here I am up on top of this rocky outcrop trying to find one to shoot some shots of Matt and Vaughan. Finding nice angles is easy, finding people to ride it just one more time is harder!

I bagged two shots I was pleased with and I really like the quality of the light in the images. Well worth climbing up high for!
