Pictures on the wall

There was a saying I heard once that went something a along the lines of..

Surround yourself with the work of others rather than your own

Now I’ve no idea who said that and when but it seemed like a good idea. There’s no point in looking at your own work really. Best to inspire yourself with someones else’s. So on the wall above our desk at home we’ve been collecting a series of prints, posters and photos to go on the wall. We had a bit of a re-arrange at the weekend to squeeze more in and allow for others that are on their way from some print swaps I’ve done. It’s looking good for now though.

When I grow up…

…I want to have a room in which I design an amazing set of shelves full of records, CDs, cameras, amazing Architecture & Photography books and ALL of Emma’s novels. Must start saving. In the meantime this will have to do:

Excuse the poor quality pic. My iPhone is great at lots of things, pictures ain’t one of them.

I really hate IKEA but sometimes it's worth it. on Twitpic500*12

a small celebration

Well I guess it’s not usual to talk about finances on here but this month is a bit special. I just finished paying of £14,000 of loans to the good people at HSBC. It’s certainly been painful and I am very very glad it’s all gone. It’s was good experience for me to buckle down and get that done, I feel that I will know how to build business credit better now, when the time comes around for that, I will be ready. The 6 months in Vienna and paying for my Diploma in Architecture was kind of expensive. Quite a weight off my mind and finances too. Fingers crossed I don’t lose my job now.

Christmas day

After a long drive from Cambridge to Bath yesterday I settled in back at Mum’s house and awaited Father Christmas this morning. He arrived promptly as usual and I got a range of amazing books [mainly photography], a Holga camera and enough money to pay for my Seb Rogers photo course in March. All good!

Went out this morning for a supposedly quick ride on the road bikes with Dad which turned in to a 22 mile ride through Atworth and over to Lacock taking in Bowden Hill which is a bit of a lung buster. Fairly fast paced ride but none of our preferred pubs were open so went back for a hot whiskey at Dad’s place and then went back to Mum’s for lunch. Had lamb which was ace!

Off to Wales for a trip to Afan with Gavin and also Erik who is over from Germany for Christmas.

Ooops

So, Thursday morning after seeing Cut Copy at the Scala, Emma and I got up as usual. Emma tried to have a shower but no water as they were digging up the road to replace the water main. No worries, I have a shower at work after the ride in.

Working away on my project when I get an email from Matt saying “The fire brigade just called me, the flat is flooded”… erm, excuse me? So rode home to see what was going on and this is what I find when I walk in…..

Could do with a spring clean

Ahh, erm. Well that’s the ceiling you can see on the floor. The water had come back on and jerked the shower head up, spraying it all over the floor for five hours.

The damage? Apart from the obvious lack of ceiling the list goes as follows, MacBook dead, two printers, airport extreme basestation, aiport express, sofa, table, chair, A3 printer, multifunction HP printer scanner thing, an external drive, 28″ TV, DVD player and surround sound box, speakers, hifi separates and lots of other bits and bobs.

No electricity in the flat for now and spent a few days mopping up and wiping down the dust and gunk. Got a dehumidfyer in there for now and hoping to go home tomorrow. Thank god for M+S insurance!
