Ghosts of Shopping Past

A brilliant set of images documenting the death of many of the American Malls by photographer Brian Ulrich. I studied the idea of the American Mall when I was doing Diploma. I was looking at public and private space in terms of cities. Not my favourite of spaces it must be said.

The images as well as an interview are here and the headline quote taken from the article below.

Landscaping overgrows, walls develop mildew, ceilings cave in — a building can be shut down, but that doesn’t make it go away. Brian Ulrich’s photographs of closed-down malls and big-box retail stores reveal the potential ghost towns lying inside successful shopping complexes all across America.

Edit: The full set of images can be seen on his website. Looks like they were all shot on a large format camera.

Nice saddle mister!

My good friend Dave has a friend who makes nice saddles out of leather. All completely custom and made to your design! Surely a good way to customise that nice road bike of yours. Prices are pretty reasonable too.

And I quote:
Basically, you can choose the leather and colour and stitch etc and she does the rest. Good way to bring some old or damaged saddle back to life as well.

Cycling round the world

This is a great story, not content with riding round the world for charity but this guy has decided that he wants to do it the fastest too! He was averaging 120 miles a day and has now upped it to 150 miles a day. My knees and arse feel sore just thinking about it!

A few more details and pictures on the Flickr blog.

Good luck!

Really like this!

Sean Denham and Renovo’s hi-tech wood frame bicycles – Core77: “You can’t get much greener than Portland-based Renovo Hardwood Bicycles’ R4 Pursuit, made from two CNC’d halves of wood bonded together lengthwise (yielding a hollow core).”
